On Sunday 16/2/20, two AWF teams travelled to a sunny but bitterly cold & windswept Methil Stadium in Fife to play a series of friendly matches with East Fife Walking Football Club.
The series of friendly matches saw the first competitive appearance of Gordon ‘Gogs’ Smith, a product of the club’s youth policy.
Team ‘Hatchet’ men adopted the policy of playing against the wind in all four of their matches and were quickly into their stride beating Atletico Arthritico 3-0 (Hatchet 1 Milney 2).
Their next match was against their colleagues the Burnie Boys in which they ran out comfortable 6-0 winners with Gogsy scoring his first competitive goals (Milney 3, Gogsy 3).
Match 3 saw the Hatchet men play Borussia Bypass (arguably East Fife’s strongest team).
Gogsy took centre stage scoring all 3 goals in a fine 3-0 victory.
The Hatchet men’s final match was against Stent Johnstone. four goals from Milney and
two fae Grouch plus a cracking goal from East Fife (to deny The Cat a tournament clean sheet) sealed a fine team performance and a 6-1 win over the Stent, an unbeaten series of matches and the accolade of winning the first series of friendly matches between the 2 clubs.
Afterwards the teams were treated to hospitality in the East Fife hospitality bar & our thanks go out to our East Fife counterparts for making us so welcome.
Mike Burnett (club captain) on behalf of AWF proposed a vote of thanks to our opponents.
